Our approach for Cleaning the San Diego's Bays

1: Prevention & Education

From the debris study we know that the many river, streams, and sewers empty trash into the bay. If it is not collected than it keeps causing disruption to the environment and get smaller and harder to remove. Most of this debris float and collects in areas that can only be accessed by boat. Preventing clean up, until now! By utilizing volunteers to help collect the trash from the nets we can educate thousands of the San Diego community on what they can do to prevent trash from getting in the bay in the first place. Once they see the problem first hand the volunteers will be empowered to limit their single use plastics, and take advantage of our cities conservation efforts

2: Ease of On-The-Water Trash Removal

Trash is skimmed off the water by driving the vessel over the areas that the floating trash naturally collects. This allows for quick, easy collection of trash despite the large area of the bay. These vessels are able to get into shallow areas where the trash enters the bay and collects them before the problem gets worse. Other city's have been successful be implementing these kinds of programs removing tons of trash out of the water before it further breaks down in the bay.

3: Scalability

Below is the plan to start cleaning the bay with a scalable program that can grow as our SD Clean Bay community grows. As we secure funding, grants and donations we will add more vessels, and progress to the Industrial cleaning solution that America's FInest City Deserves.

Meet the future Fleet

Phase 1 Community Clean-Up-Vessel

We believe the best way  grow this community is to find the quickest way to get on the water and to start cleaning. For this reason we have chosen to re-fit a old pontoon boat with a homemade skimmer and long handle trash collection nets for volunteers. This way we can start getting people out on the water and start making an impact and grow with our community.

Phase 2 & 3 Professional Skimmer Vessel

Once we have raised the funding to order a professional skimmer we will be able to expand the coverage and effectiveness of our project. This professional skimmer will be able to haul over 2,000 pounds in its 99 cu ft Trash Basket at over 8 MPH. The Trash Bin can be lifted by crane for quicker empting keeping. Less down time more time skimming for trash. Fue

Phase 4 Industrial Skimmer Vessel

Trash collection boats are being used by cities  around the world. The City of Tampa has had a great success with it's trash removal program. It will skim deeper than the Professional Skimmer, up to 3 feet. The conveyor belt will allow the vessel to move quicker through the water without loosing trash. With a 3 ton capacity we will be able to spend the whole day on

How we get there?

We are going to are focusing on growing our community first. We are going to bring together people that have a passion for the bay and start spreading the word on how we all help minimize trash getting into the bay. Then go out there and clean it.

We have a small team of volunteers that are committed to get a full scale trash removal program in San Diego Bay and beyond. If you know of a program or resource we should know about please let us know. Every bit helps.
